Microdermabrasion is a non-invasive skin exfoliating procedure that treats wrinkles, sun damage, acne scars and more, resulting in a brighter, more even skin tone. If you’re considering microdermabrasion to address skin issues on your face, neck, chest and hands, this guide to microdermabrasion costs and microdermabrasion financing can help you plan and budget for your microdermabrasion treatments.

How much is a microdermabrasion?

Microdermabrasion treatments are performed in salons, spas or in your dermatologist’s office, and costs can vary depending on where you have your procedure. The average cost of a microdermabrasion skin treatment session is $1361 but can range from $75 – $200.2

During the non-invasive procedure, the provider uses a hand-held machine with a rough tip to gently remove the top layer of skin. The machine may have a diamond tip or shoot out tiny crystals that exfoliate your skin. Some microdermabrasion machines have a built-in vacuum that removes the dead skin cells from your skin.

How many microdermabrasion treatments do I need?

Depending on the specific skin condition addressed and your desired results, some people need between five and 12 microdermabrasion treatments, spaced about two to three weeks apart, as well as periodic maintenance treatments. Additional costs may include skin care products recommended by your provider to help maintain your results. These may include cleansers, masques and moisturizer, and can cost up to $200.3

Does insurance cover microdermabrasion?

Microdermabrasion is usually considered an elective cosmetic procedure, so insurance is not likely to cover the cost. In some cases, undergoing microdermabrasion for the treatment of certain skin conditions, such as acne or melasma, may be considered medically necessary. It’s a good idea to check with your health insurance company to confirm your covered benefits.

How can I finance and pay for microdermabrasion treatment?

Some dermatologists and cosmetic providers may offer payment plans, so it doesn't hurt to ask if you can pay for your microdermabrasion treatment in installments. A credit card is also a way to finance microdermabrasion costs. If you’re planning on having multiple microdermabrasion treatments, ask your provider if they offer a package discount.

Can I use my CareCredit credit card to pay for microdermabrasion?
